SUNSET & SUNRISE
It is impossible to mention Greenland without discussing one of its prized locations, Ilulissat.
Ilulissat in Greenland is a gem within an already magnificent country. It is a unique place not only in Greenland but also in the World due to its proximity to the Kangia Fjord. When directly translated from Kalaallisut the word Ilulissat literally means “Icebergs”. Which is why it is not too surprising that Ilulissat’s Icefjord was declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2004. Ilulissat is a privileged enclave for nature lovers in search of new sensations.
WHY WE LOVE
Ilulissat is a cosy place with a warm community.
It is a town that offers spectacular views, friendly locals, and almost as many dogs as people! There are some places in the world where you feel like you’re a part of a fixed program, like you’re an observer looking into a foreign world. But in Ilulissat Greenland, you feel just the opposite, it´s as if you’ve been welcomed into someone’s home, as if you’re one with the locals.
Ilulissat treats you to Nature’s splendour.
This welcoming town captures all your senses. Even with your eyes closed you can still witness the greatness of the icebergs as they rumble and echo. Your eyes get to witness the beauty of the landscape, geometric perfection of the icebergs, and many hues of blue around the city. Treat your nose to the sweet and refreshing smells of crystal clean air. Ilulissat also offers fantastic sites but there is more to this town than just its looks. Ilulissat is a diverse town with a deep-rooted love of food. In fact, one of Ilulissat´s nicknames is, the Gastronome’s Getaway.
Ilulissat also has museums that invite you to spend a quiet morning or afternoon with them while you discover the treasures of an ancient Inuit culture. But the excitement doesn´t end there, you can also glide around icebergs while waving to nearby animals. You can also get to witness Arctic foxes and oxen in their natural habitat. Ilulissat is the perfect arctic town.
