DESIGN AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT OFFICE FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW VIA FERRATA IN PARQUE MONTAÑAS DE URBION – SPAIN

As the first step of the project Parque Montañas de Urbión, developed by Pas Grau International on a consultancy project for the Diputación de Soria in the search of tourism activities to develop in the Natural Park of the Picos de Urbión, PGI Management was mandated by the same Public Administration to analyze, design and manage the construction of a Via Ferrata in the area known as Castroviejo, located In Duruelo de la Sierra.

The project consisted of the following phases:

Phase 1. Design. PGI Management searched for the best location where to build the Via Ferrata and designed an initial trace. Together with the initial trace design also introduced some other elements to be included in the project such as the information office, introduction via ferrata and viewpoint.

Phase 2. Tender redaction. PGI performed the preliminary project for the construction of the Via Ferrata in Castroviejo, key element before the tender launch by the Diputación de Soria.  This

Phase 3. Construction Management. Once the construction company was chosen after the tender process, PGI Management performed the construction management, supervising the construction works and certifying all the elements used in the construction.

This project had a crucial importance as this was the first step of the Mountain Park project called “Parque Montañas de Urbión”. Inaugurated on July 2019, his early success is the confirmation of the Mountain Park project and this will serve to boost the other projects pending to start. This project will help to enhance the outdoor tourism in Soria Province, and it could mean a turning point in the problem of depopulation of that province.
