Traveling Alone: The Pros and Cons of Solo Travel

We’re going to go out on a limb here and just say that we’re pro traveling alone. Here at Wildthentic we strive to create moments that are unique and fulfilling. Therefore, we support anything that pushes you towards growth. Not only does traveling do just that BUT traveling alone takes it up a notch. Is there a city in particular you’d like to fall in love with? Where would you like to go?

Did you know that Argentina ranks among one of the best countries for solo travel according to Travel + Leisure magazine?

While you’re dwelling on those questions take a moment to read our short list of traveling alone pros and cons. This is meant to help anyone who is still on the fence.

Pro: You can do what you want, when you want

Con: You might get lonely

The fear of feeling only is the single most deterrent from solo travel. But, if you think about it, you won’t have to feel this way if you make the ‘right’ decisions. For example, if you know you are prone to the loneliness blues find some bas or restaurants where you can chat up the bartender. Maybe meet some locals? Look up some lively cafes or street food corners. Visit a locale that is known to service travelers, like you! Or sign up for some classes! What are your interests? Cooking? Pottery? Mixology?

We are certain that once you get the hang of traveling alone, there will be no going back. Besides, learning to be in your own company is exceptionally gratifying.

The woman who follows the crowd will usually go no further than the crowd. The woman who walks alone is likely to find herself in places no one has ever been before.” – Albert Einstein

Pro & Con of traveling alone: You are to thank as well as to blame for all decisions

This one is quite interesting. You are the creator of your travel destiny! Therefore, any small feat you accomplish is yours and yours alone. It can be anything from mastering native saying enough to have a local understand you to finding a specific location. Sure, the idea of going at it all alone might seem daunting at times but that’s part of what makes your accomplishments that much more exciting! You will find yourself with newfound confidence. This will be very beneficial for your future endeavors once you re-enter reality back home.

Pro: You can manage your budget easier

This one has no con. You will without a doubt be able to keep a closer eye on spending when you only account for yourself. Also, different people value different things. For example, your spouse might be a foodie whereas you are a wine fanatic. They might want to spend $100 on a nice dinner whereas you’d rather use it towards a bottle or two of fantastic wine. You will be free from the spending habits and attitudes of other people. Plus, you won’t feel the pressure of having to go/eat/or drink anywhere out of your budget. Not to mention, all your experiences will be more meaningful! (See how we snuck an extra Pro in there?)

Don’t just take our word for it, there are many travel experts who claim that traveling alone leads to a marvelous adventure.
