Cosquín Festival

This folklore celebration takes place in the small town of Cosquín located within the province of Cordoba. A favorite among locals, this festival is not only one of the most important festivals in Argentina but in Latin America as well. This grand celebration lasts 9 days and takes place during the second half of January. The Cosquín Festival has a rich history. It was first organized as a musical competition with an integral and undeniable folk experience. The festivals were and continue to be centered around “peñas” which are big folklore parties filled with food, drink, and of course MUSIC! Now here’s a party! What Rio de Janeiro is to Brazil in Carnaval time is what Gualeguaychú is to Argentina. Known as “the Carnaval of the Country”. This mega costume and dance fest takes place in early January.  Gualeguaychú is the first of the festivals in Argentina to kick off a two month long celebration of consecutive parties every weekend that doesn’t end until late February. This 80-year-old tradition dates back to 1936 and hosts a series of shows, concerts, and overall gatherings throughout the week.
