The best Kayak Experience in Argentina

If you have been in Patagonia, Argentina, then you know that Perito Moreno Glacier is an absolute must in your bucket list for any nature-lover.

Perito Moreno Glacier, with its staggering 250 square kilometres of ice formation and towering 74 metres height above the water, is renowned for its active behaviour has the ice can move up to two metres a day, while its mass retract from about the same, creating spectacular ice falls. The glacier itself is an extraordinary site to be seen at least once in a lifetime, but its surroundings with snow peak mountains is also awe-inspiring.

While most visitors will come and see the glacier from the distance of the ‘Pasarelas’ (wooden footbridge) where you walk with fantastic views, or via a short cruise to see this unique spectacle on earth, we offer you the opportunity to experience it the Wildthentic way: from your kayak, closer to nature and in perfect harmony with your surroundings for a different perspective to this great highlight, one that shall stay with you forever.

This is a unique excursion in Perito Moreno

This adventure is special because it is the first activity of its kind to exist in the area. This is the first time anyone is able to kayak in this highly protected area.  And thanks to a fantastic team of expert guides we were able to find a beautiful route among the glaciers.

The Perito Moreno Kayak Experience provides a full day of fun. Your journey begins from your hotel in El Calafate,  to the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier. This experience is at water level with no engines.  Nature’s silence is only broken by the sounds of ice calving. Remember, prior experience is not necessary and all technical equipment is included.

The adventure begins with an hour drive to the park. Once in the park, you will have plenty of time to explore the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site of Perito Moreno Glacier before your excursion and walk the dedicated footbridge for an astonishing view of the site.

We then welcome you to our lovely dome. Here our expert guides will go over important kayaking techniques. Security measures will be reviewed along with a warm up before embaraking. We will then get in the kayaks and prepare to be amazed. Outstanding landscapes and marvelous mountains surround the area. We will then paddle in Lago Argentino. Kayakers will then go across the north side of the glacier. This stretch continues for about one and a half hours (depending on weather conditions and physical conditions of the group). You will have exceptional view of the Perito Moreno Glacier and the Parque Nacional de Los Glaciares as your backdrop!

After the kayaking experience, we all return to our dome, where your packed lunch (meat or vegetarian Sandwich + petit four + fruit + beverage) will be provided along with hot drinks and snacks.

This is a unique opportunity to kayak right in front of the breathtaking Perito Moreno Glacier!

We depart from the dome at 15:00 before to head back to town. It will take approximately one and a half to two hours to drive back to your hotel in El Calafate.

The experience is intimate with only 20 passengers plus our staff. It is available from August till May, daily.

Finally, the question is, are you going to El Calafate?

Job well done!!

This was one of the most amazing experiences in Calafate. The Upsala Team was very knowledgeable and provided education about the area and the glaciers. All the equipment was new and in great working order. The boat that took us to the Upsala Glacier was brand new as well and very comfortable. The expedition takes no more than 15 people so you never feel crowded. The guides were fun and took us close to the icebergs in our double kayaks but kept us safe. I recommend the Upsala Team as their professionalism made the experience a 10. Basically, they include everything, all the equipment, even the photos and food so there is nothing to worry about. Additionally, they really, really want you to have a good time and it is clear that they like what they are doing. All very important aspects to ensure an amazing outcome.

A Paradise in Ice

The north side of Perito Moreno Glacier in Lago Argentino is ideal for taking part in an adventure you will never forget.

Perito Moreno Glacier, with its staggering 250 square kilometres of ice formation and towering 74 metres height above the water, is listed as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site for its breathtaking beauty and unique features.

Moving at a speed of two metres per day, and yet losing about the same proportion of ice mass in the same day, remains a natural mystery even glaciologists are trying to resolve, and makes it one of the only glaciers on earth that isn’t retracting.

The other extraordinary phenomenon to witness, if you are very lucky, is the formation of the ‘ice bridge’ and then the spectacular ice fall as it collapses.

The glacier itself is an extraordinary site to be seen at least once in a lifetime, but its surroundings with snow peak mountains is also awe-inspiring.

We warn you: the landscape you will see from your kayak is unrepeatable.

The waters surrounding Perito Moreno Glacier are highly restricted and this exclusive access, paddling on board your kayak, is a gift of nature that should definitely not be missed.
